How can a business carve a niche and remain successful?

I live on a small island and work in a small A/C business, however since recently there has been an influx of like businesses. However they are offering costs that are so low its ridiculous and makes it difficult for other businesses. How can this business remain competitive, maintain its customers and also get new clients, and still make a profit? Taking into consideration the various expenses of running a business. (only serious answers required)
